I bought this camera for my wife. It fits in a shirt pocket and is perfect for family trips. We've missed a lot a great moments because we chose not to bring the large camcorder. Toss the still camera and take this one instead. Video is surprisingly crisp and colorful. Side by side with the old SD camcorders the quality it will make you wonder why you waited so long. Figure ~10min of 1080p/GB of SDHC (16GB=~2.5hrs). Battery life appears to be pretty good, better than the big camcorders we've had.

Some suggestions to future buyers
1) buy a good gorilla type tripod
2) get a decent case that keeps dust out of the lense area
3) have a plan to store the video(and other important files) such as a external hard drive (or a NAS w/RAID5 if you like me) to protect from losing your video over the years. This pays for itself considering you can re-use the SDHC card after transfering video.
4) Consider buying a media player (DNLA/UPnP) that you can watch the video, play iTunes music, view photos (old and new) via your home network (works like a DVR). You can add a hard drive to the media player and you've covered #3 as well. buy kodak zi8 camcorder

even the build quality of the zi8 is terrible. It feels terribly flimsy and the form factor does not aid on-the-go shooting the way the Flip does.

I was very disappointed with this purchase.

i was looking for a video camera and I was between the Flip HD and the Kodak zi8. I decided to go for the zi8.
I got it yesterday and in summary: it is a piece of junk. It is my first return trough Amazon after years of purchasing all kinds of stuff online.
The camera freezes all the time, the power button doesn't work 90% of the time, so the only way to turn this camera was by removing the battery. I could not download videos into my PC. I contacted Kodak customer service, i installed the software upgrades and the camera still freezed all the time. I even bought a new Kodak SD memory card thinking this could have been the problem, and nothing got solved. Kodak customer service suggested that I got the camera exchanged. And yes, I am exchanging it for a Flip or something else!

I have had the Kodak Zi8 for almost 2 months now, and am very happy with it. It replaced an older JVC mini dv camcorder. The picture quality is very good. The widescreen aspect ratio, compared to the old format is awsome. I can't get over how crisp and clear the videos are on my HD tv. The low light videos of my daughters birthday are great. Since it slips into my shirt pocket, i take it everywhere, and now have lots of videos that I would never have taken with the older, larger camcorder. No sound problem, as the sound works great. My advise is buy it, you wont' regret it for the money. A more expensive camcorder will not get you a better picture, just a better zoom lens. This lens is fine for what it's intended for.
